Dealing with Non-paying Clients

I recently had my first non-paying client as a soloist. And, if I may share, it hurt. As someone who likes to go on about the importance of building great client relationships, this really stung. I couldn’t just let it ride.

A very Ted St Patrick’s Day

It may not be obvious but a little bit of Irish blood runs through the veins of westonculture. (The catholic stories should give it away…). As such it was our duty to celebrate yesterday with a little tipple. Declan Shalvey from Eclectic Micks (a collection of talented Irish comic book artists) helps us appreciate the joy [...]

Craig fesses up: Original Notes From Chris

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about some strange posters appearing around Melbourne inviting people to meet up with someone named Craig. (See Craig’s Other List) Well, it turns out that Craig’s notes were, um, inspired by a New York project by writer/director/maker, Todd Lamb entitled Notes From Chris. Todd describes the project [...]

Apparently, Andy Warhol said

Apparently, Andy Warhol said, “Being good in business is the most fascinating art”.  I love how Warhol refers to business as an art. Business is usually presented as this rational, hard-headed thing – and it rarely is. Being good in business? He’s right. That is an art.

4 My People by Missy Elliott

Joy Retro Disco presents Uplifting Tunes for your weekend! Oh, I had a dilemma this week folks. Choose a tune with god- or drug-references? Drug won. But only because I was trying to redress a very bad I did in my Top Tunes for a Women’s Dance list last weekend. I didn’t put any Missy [...]

Squeal! We made the Neatorama front page.

Our post last week about Craig’s Other List made the Neatorama front page and feed on the weekend. Neatorama is one of my favourite blogs so I’m stoked. Yay. It also helped get us on the google radar (we now exist in the google-o-sphere – yay), and we found out that Craig’s Other List has a [...]

Is this the coolest business card ever?

I love business card design. I think there’s something about the size constraints of the card that make people think a little bit more creatively about how they represent themselves and their business. In the most memorable cards, it’s the combination of typeface, colour, text and images with texture, material, shape and size that give [...]

Ten top tunes for a Women’s Dance 2009-style

Happy International Women’s Day! Woooo! Wave your handbags in the air! Shake your chardies like you just don’t care! International Women’s Day is usually a time when we stop and take stock of where our society’s at on the gender agenda. We acknowledge and celebrate those who have come before us, who lobbied, yelled, insisted, [...]

Apparently, Albert Einstein said

Apparently, Albert Einstein said,  “Not everything that counts can be counted” Sometimes the most important things in life cannot be quantified. How can you measure love? How can you measure joy? I know people are now quantifying and measuring happiness but do we really need to put a number on it?
